I was somewhat reluctant to buy this book
A main theme of the reviews, both positive and negative, seemed to point out that Freeman is a difficult read. But if you are really interested in composition from the photographer's perspective and push onward, you will begin to pay more attention to the content and less to the author's tone.
Some of the sections are very technical, like the "Golden Section" and "Fibonacci Series". But photography is a visual art and most of the book is about general artistic principles and design with exampled photos. I think people will get the most from the book by reading a few sections, then going out and taking a LOT of pictures to put the newly learned principle into practice. Just read and shoot....read and shoot.

Scott Kelby book is a must-have
I got the book before the software arrived and looked it over. I read the foreword and this fella is the kind of person that we should all aspire to be.
After getting the software and following his guidelines on how to arrange my pictures and folders, I installed the software and started using LR2 right away. I've programmed computers for years, but I'm not a pro at graphic anything, so having this guide was invaluable for me. I can honestly say that I never would have figured out how to use the features properly at all were it not for the first two chapters. I'm already comfortable with what I've done and look forward to learning more.
His writing style is easy to understand and guides me from one task to the next just like it flows in the program. He's obviously thought out his approach to workflow and benefits me, the reader, as he teaches me what to do and what to decide for myself, and more importantly, what to watch out for! I can't count how many pieces of software I've had to figure out on my own, only to make one misstep after another before finally arriving at a working solution. His book has already saved me hours and I'm only an eighth of the way through it!
I recommend this book.

Great books !
These books are fantastic. There even more helpful if you have a Canon or Nikon. You'll pick up tips that will help you as you want to improve your photography. Everything is practical and hands on. It's fun reading. I dogtagged and earmarked many pages for re referencing. It's from the pros to you. Nothing technical, just here's how you do it so go give it a try. I highly recommend these books for your photo library.
